Everyone, any time can be offered with a gift, but it is him to deal and negotiate with.
There is a story which may lead you in a better way...
Father: (Looking at Son’s negligence towards his study, he thought to develop his son’s interest in study) Son, if you score a pass mark in your final exam, I will gift you a bicycle.

He has shown a least interest on studies, exam arrived, result published, the Son found himself in failed list. He went to his Father and asked his gifts as they had negotiated earlier. Based on earlier promise, the Father purchased him Ten new cycle and a shop.
Son: Thank you Papa.
Father: Son, I tried my best, but you hardly have put any effort towards your success. If you have passed the exam, then I would have bought you a new cycle and you might have enjoyed the next level of studies with your friends. But you have chosen and forced me to buy Ten cycles for you. Now, I wish you to sit at this CYCLE-MART and do the business.
The moral: Gifts are everywhere, we have to recognize that.
