“Every individual has two shadows, devil and angel. Angel always suggests the path, whereas the Devil operates. Human is all to navigate.”
The population of India is very vast. It is obvious that the original numbers would be more than the Government Censor calculation. All plans are made according to the official figures. Hence, plans always fail in India. Indian discipline is another characteristic for the failure of any plan. Indeed, India has a great culture. We are conservatives, having a lot of moral values but when it comes to the advanced world or new technology there we mismatch a little. We have to learn many things, like how to tackle all those in peacefully, to keep clean our environment, to follow the rules made by government, to get literate. Growing population, illiteracy, corruptions are digging our culture and dragging us back. The contemporary countries have gone far away and we are still crawling. Let’s visit with me some experience I have earned from my Indian brothers.
Once I had traveled with Indian railway, the largest Indian Government body, from Mumbai to Ahmadabad. I had a sudden program, so unfortunately my ticket didn’t get confirm. But I had to go; hence, I started the journey. The crowd started filling with the passage of time and became a people jungle when the train begun to start. That was a pathetic situation, there was 90 seated berths had contained more than 180 people. Just imagine the situation. I was searching for a place to sit and fortunately the Ticket collector allowed me to sit on his seat. I sat comfortably and when the night became darker everybody started to settle themselves. Meanwhile my friendship had grown up with some people of my age. We started playing cards to pass the boredom and night. People were even laid themselves on the floor of that train, which was not enough clean tough. The train was so packed that no one could move an inch. The ticket collector came back to his seat to spend the night. So all my travel friends were stepped down on the floor and the TC slept on his own. Luckily I got a place to sit on that seat.
With the passage of time, so called friends were trying to settle themselves on the floor. The train stopped at a station, a person came inside. Anyhow he managed to place his bag but didn’t get a place to sit. He stood near the door and my seat was near too. I could mark his frustration and tiredness. He waited and waited and lastly laid down on the other who already had settled on the floor before. But calmly that person allowed him to sleep as if they are siblings. This is Indian motive. He adjusted himself but in a squeezed manner. I was noticing him thoroughly, after sometimes he straightened his legs and spotted that on my rail-friends leg. When my friend was starting to say something to that man, he started instead. My friend preferred to stay calm and spent that night. Meanwhile my eyes were closed and when I got my sense back the train had reached to Ahmadabad.
I completed my work and returned on the next day. And found the same situation that my ticket was not confirmed. Fortunately the train was not so packed. I could find a place to sit. I found a few people stepped into the train with the general ticket. They were convincing to the TC for a seat, seats were vacant but he didn’t listen to them. But later on they placed somewhere on the vacated seats. I found the TC was even collected extra money from those ticketless persons. We Indian settled with less money but illegally. They also didn’t ask for the receipt and the train was on that’s way.
Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha. Once I had been there for some work. I completed mine and returned by the train. My city is 165 km away from Bhubaneswar. I bought a general ticket and the TC allowed me to sit in the reservation berth. I sat and asked for the receipt from the TC. A big fat person came into my berth and sat beside me. He was looking like a politician. His fat fingers were sized with golden rings. A golden chain was hanging on his neck. We started gossiping, soon the train started towards its destination. After sometimes the TC came and made tickets for those, who had no tickets. Someone got the receipts and a few didn’t. Finally the TC arrived at our berth. He asked for tickets at our berth.
TC to Fat man: Ticket please.
Fat man: I don’t have ticket.
TC: Where will you go?
Fat man: To Berhampur.
TC: Do you have general ticket?
Fat man: Yes, I do.
TC: Okay, give me 60 rupees more.
Fat man: Okay. (He gave a 100 rupees note.)
(The TC collected the money and tore a receipt.)
TC: Your receipt and 10 rupees.
Fat Man: But you have to give me 30 rupees more.
TC: No, that is 90 rupees.
(The Fat man kept silent and the TC moved away.)
We started conversation; the point was TC’s double words. I asked the Fat man to open the receipt. We found that, he charged for luggage. We laughed. The fat man asked the TC to come to him. The TC did the same. The Fat man slapped the TC hard and asked “What am I?” The TC had gone blank. He could not say anything but literary crying. And asked…
TC: What is this?
Fat man: A slap.
TC: Why?
Fat man: I asked you first? What am I?
TC: Means…
Fat man: Am I a man or a luggage?
TC: (He remained silent) wait I will sue you. (He got his rest money back.)
The TC left the place. We went on for our talk. Soon I saw the TC arrived with two police and three more TC. One of the police came to the Fat man and said, ‘Brother, where are you going? You did the thing. I am sorry for him.’ The police asked other to leave the place. They went, and a funny chapter closed.
